As newly-appointed Chief Marketing Officer (CMO), it’s my job to keep you informed…even if it does mean writing about myself! So here goes:

I’m excited to announce two appointments to the team—Steve Merckel and me!

Steve is our new CTO (Chief Technical Officer) and, as such, he will be responsible for managing the relationship between technology and business strategy.  His first major focus is toward building FyrFly from the ground up.  It’s a daunting task he’ll be facing in the next few months but he’s a super smart dude and is most definitely up for the challenge.  He is ramping up a highly skilled development team focused on delivering Fyrfly and all of the features (and the many more unseen capabilities) necessary for this product!  Steve has a creative side to him rarely seen in the geekiness of numbers and codes, and has a very easy going personality. He also stays fit (super fit!) by training in Krav Maga, a form of self-defense that includes techniques from AikidoJudoMuay Thaiboxing and wrestling, along with realistic fight training. Krav Maga is known for its focus on real-world situations and its emphasis on efficiency of movement. I can see in just the short time I’ve worked with Steve that efficiency in his tasks are his #1 priority; it’s also a great quality to embark on the journey ahead of him with. I’m hoping to learn from Steve as I am someone who can definitely use some lessons in that department!  And I’m adding some early congrats — Steve and is his wife, Meghan, are expecting their first baby this July!

Steve Merckel

As for as me, I’m a father of two, married for over 17 years to my amazing wife Elizabeth. I’ve learned there’s absolutely nothing efficient about raising kids, but the lessons learned from being a parent is an education like none other. I’ve taken some huge leaps in my life, but nothing like the one our family is about to take, moving from where we both grew up (in New Jersey just outside of NYC) to the offices of Songfreedom and Fyrfly in St. Louis! I’m a city boy through and through so this will be an adventure like no other. My last office was smack dab in the center of Wall Street, so this will be a huge change for me and, of course, my family — we are all very excited!. And I’ve recently been introduced to Schlafly Beer and gooey butter cake, both of which I know will be soon be staples in our new home.
