WPPI Survival Tips!
Last night before I went to bed a Facebook post appeared in my memories feed. It was a live video of me walking down to the awards ceremony for the very last time. Reminiscing that moment, with all the comments and well wishes flooding across my screen definitely stirred my emotions! It was a memorable night to say the least, and I can’t believe how fast this year has flown by! While I have kept in touch with many, there are still several of you that I miss so much and I can’t wait to see!
I was happy to hear of the move to the Mandalay Bay, I believe this new location will provide that “community vibe” the MGM had. The crew at WPPI have some fun events planned, and for those of you that may be new this year, I recommend you visit the website for all the events and education they have planned.
Here are a few tips for making the most of WPPI 2018!
Plan your week ahead of time
Sounds basic, but be prepared to rock this week! This means scheduling your events in your calendar with alerts, as well as making a hard copy because your phone will die at some point. Be sure to give yourself extra time to rest, eat and get to where you need to go, of course.
It’s Vegas, kids. There’s a line for everything and nothing is close by. If you don’t make your schedule in advance, I promise you will get derailed in the first hour upon arrival, and you don’t want to be packing your bag saying, “Where did that week go? I have so much I still want to do”. You’ve been warned!
Stick to your plan
This goes for everyone, myself included. A good plan is only the start; you’ve got to see it through. I can’t tell you how many times I was heading somewhere and ran into a few friends who said, “We’re getting coffee, join us!” Remember, you’re here to learn, discover, (and yes, network), but there’s plenty of time for that when classes and the tradeshow are closed.
Go buy some water!
Unfortunately, I don’t recall seeing any stores to buy snacks and water within walking distance of Mandalay Bay, but I’d highly recommend grabbing a friend and a taking a trip to stock up at the beginning of the week. Get some breakfast treats, too. A personal recommendation: strawberry Pop-tarts. I only eat them once a year during WPPI, but that sugar rush seems to help shake out the cobwebs from the night before.
Leave those new shoes in your room
It’s not worth the pain!
Make 10 new friends
Make it a goal! You are here to learn, but also expand your network (after classes, of course). It can be intimidating approaching new people, but the WPPI family is a friendly one, I promise! If we don’t already know each other, I’d be happy to be your friend; only 9 to go now!
Make dinner reservations early in the week
I’m not familiar with any of the restaurants in Mandalay Bay, but I’d suggest visiting the website and make a reservation at one place BEFORE you leave for your trip. I have also found that picking up the phone and calling the restaurant can work if the online reservation system says it’s full. And don’t forget to ask your new friends to join you!
Download the WPPI App!
It will have the most up-to-date information and any last minute changes that might come up during the event, which will happen. Turn ON all notifications so when something changes, you’re informed. If you need a tradeshow pass, click here for a free pass on us!
Come say hi!
I’m going to be working hard with the crew at our booth #565! I won’t be working the show this year so I’ll have lots of time to chat! We’ll have a crazy good booth special so you’ll definitely want to take advantage of that!
Safe travels everyone! See you in just a few weeks at Mandalay Bay!
